One of Scotland's most architecturally renowned buildings will host the 5th anniversary Scottish Fashion Awards. The Glasgow Science Centre, which backs onto the River Clyde, will be the setting for this feast of fashion. For on Sunday 20th June 2010, international fashion figures, designers, celebrities and dignitaries will gather at Scotland 's most sought after fashion ticket. The tartan red carpet will greet guests from New York , London , Los Angeles , Paris and Milan as they gather at the titanium splendor and celebrate innovation and creativity in this futuristic setting.
We will celebrate our leading fashion talents who have excelled themselves in the last twelve months inside this feat of modern design, where couture gowns and elegant heels will arrive in their chauffeur driven Mercedes-Benz. Leading figures in style, renowned fashion directors and international fashion authorities will have the challenging task of judging this year's contenders. An exclusive audience made up of high profile Scottish figures, industrialists and an array of fashion talent will gather and applaud each other, gazing with an envious eye and pondering who will walk away with evening's most coveted award, Scottish Fashion Awards Designer of the Year 2010. To mark our 5th anniversary we will launch a unique award which will honour an individual or brand that has make a significant impact over the last 5 years in the fashion market place. One who's innovative and creative flair, combined with significant growth in the market place has brought them commercial success.
2010 welcomes back Vogue.com as headline sponsor once again for this glittering event, joined by Scotland 's most prominent broadsheet The Herald. Media from around the world will gather in this exciting city to join what is now officially, Scotland 's most glamorous night of the year. Official Jeweller Swarovski will provide an array of diamonds and jewels for special guests as they are chauffeured from the luxurious properties within the Hotel Du Vin Group. An array of make up artists from Bobbi Brown and hair teams from Toni & Guy will be on hand at the style suits preparing nominees, presenters and of course glamorous hostess and fashion authority Louise Roe.
Behind the glamour and excitement of the night, the awards will highlight some world-class talent in 'Catwalk Caledonia', which launched in 2007 and will feature a special runway show after the gala dinner. New for 2010 will be the exciting addition to the 'Scottish Graduate of the Year' category. Sponsored by Marks & Spencer, we will launch an exciting graduate design competition with the winner receiving a unique opportunity for a month's work placement at the brand's head office in London during the summer of 2010. An incredible platform to Scotland 's new generation of 'Caledonista's' *. Students of fashion and textiles from further educational institutions across the country will be invited enter the awards for the invaluable opportunity to present their creations to their fashion peers. Four semi-finalists will be presented with a brief from the M&S design team with the winner realizing an opportunity of a lifetime.
As we take in the magnitude of Scottish talent from the worlds of textile and cashmere design to accessories and jewellery, from the innovative new generation of designers to the stars of the catwalks around the world, we must appreciate that these are the individuals who will shape the future. The future of 'Fashion Scotland', dispelling the myths that tartan and kilts reign sovereign and proving that the 'Cool Caledonia' nuance that was aired five years ago, is now a force to be reckoned with. Our relative remoteness from Britain 's fashion capital is irrelevant and should not and will not prevent us from moving forward.
