WHO, WHERE, WHAT, WHEN
The moment our guests arrive on Scottish soil, they will indulge in our finest hospitality and 'Oscar' style treatment. Thanks to our VIP escorts at Glasgow Airport, they will be ushered through security to their waiting chauffeurs to their respective hotels at Malmaison and One Devonshire Gardens. The afternoon will be spent in the Toni & Guy and Bobbi Brown pop up salon's, mingling with nominees and designers, whilst sipping champagne. Finally, before they adorn their gowns for this black tie extravaganza, they will enter the aladdin's cave that is the Swarovski Style Suite. Having just accessorised literally dozens of Hollywood A listers at the Grammy's and Oscars, such as Jennifer Lopez, Lea Michele, Elizabeth Banks, Ashley Tisdale and Jessalyn Gilsig, Swarovski will be adding their exquisite dash of sparkle to our guests. A special selection of jewellery and handbags will be shipped from Paris especially for the awards. We can hardly contain our excitement!
This year, Swarovski is proud to introduce the stunning Octea Chronograph which makes its debut at Baselworld - The World Watch and Jewelry Show from March 24 - 31, 2011.
The Octea Chronograph is inspired by the best-selling Octea Sport and is the latest addition to our growing watch collection. With its sporty yet fashionable design, it embodies both, timekeeping and stopwatch capabilities. Chronographs are used to record the exact time between the beginning and the end of an action. By pressing the pushbutton, it is possible to record several elapsed times. Slightly larger than the Octea Sport, its contemporary styling is made up of high-precision ETA chronograph mechanisms, encased under a sapphire crystal watch glass and is water resistant to 50 meters.
Suitable for different occasions such as business and leisure activities the Octea Chronograph is available in a number of colors and complemented with either a rubber strap, a leather strap with an embossed crocodile structure or a stainless steel bracelet.
Whether it's the season's coolest flared jeans, experimenting with colour blocking, or the romantic ballerina looks your after, head to Braehead for the ultimate fashion frenzy. Imagine - the coolest high street shops under one roof to avoid the dramatic and endless scattered Scottish showers. The fashion brigade head for the out of town locations for the best selection of stock...shhhhh! Our SFA team tip would be 'Lipsy', a current favourite of celebs and highly affordable! Our Braehead suggestion is this! Bring on the summer a little early with a completely automated sunless spray tan at Mystic Tan, followed by a make over at Body Shop. Complete the day by keeping the kids happy with a 'Build A Bear Workshop' and your set! (PS. We fashion slaves love the opening hours - finishing work at 7pm we can still nip to Braehead for some therapy until 9pm - under doctors orders of course!)
There has always been incredible fusion between ballet and fashion. Both beautiful art forms, full of drama and emotion. At the centre each culminates with an exquisite piece of clothing. For hundreds of year's they have enjoyed a symbiotic relationship, from Coco Chanel costumes for Ballet Russes, to YSL 77' catwalk collection inspired by the very same Russian ballet, to the global film phenomenon that catapulted the explosion - Black Swan.
This year The Scottish Fashion Awards collaborated with the dancers from Scottish Ballet to celebrate this fascination we have for all things ballet. Bethany Kingsley Garner, Brenda Lee Grech and Nathalie Dupouy will appear in the 2011 campaign which will feature across Glasgow Airport, the official website and media. They are wearing the tutus that feature in the finale of the forthcoming Christmas 2011 ballet 'Sleeping Beauty' and accessorised by haute couture designer tights by Scottish designers 'Bebaroque'. The Scottish label began in 2007 by Glasgow School of Art graduates Mhairi McNicol and Chloe Patience and is now an international success story. Their elaborate hand embroidery and intricate drawing skills upon hosiery is truly innovative. The finishing touches came from official jeweller to the red carpet, Swarovski who dressed the ballerinas in couture pieces for their Spring/Summer 11 collections.
Tessa Hartmann said: 'There is without a doubt a passion in the market for ballet inspired dress. However, we felt that we wanted to complement the two art forms in our shoot, by honouring their skills and keeping them in their traditional costume. By this exclusive peak at the magnificent, almost couture like preparation of a ballet tutu, combined with contemporary hosiery is presenting the unexpected, yet retaining the elegance and sophistication of these magnificent dancers. Our creative theme for fashion awards this year is about the celebration and synergy of art, culture, theatre, music, performance, design and most importantly fun , with implosions of colour! The ballerinas will join a host of Scotland's top models, musicians and even a child in the main campaign for this year's event."
Over the last 6 years, a galaxy of fashion stars have descended upon our tartan carpet. From our inaugural event at the historic and majestic Stirling Castle, where glamorous guests navigated the complicated cobble stones, to the ancient walls and stone floors thundering to the sounds of the bass speakers at the Bungalow 8 after party! In Scotland, this is an unrivalled platform where we present our nations fashion stars. From designers to models, textile / manufacturing companies to fashion photographers, from retailers to emerging talent; our innovators and creators will be given centre stage on this, Scotland's most high profile fashion night of the year. It is thee award fashion players want to win and it retains the international credibility that they each seek. 2011 is set to be another exciting year for Scotland the fashionable and the brave!
Tip of the month! Fed up with the nude offerings on the runways, then opt for the classic red! Bobbi Brown has unveiled a new lipstick Rich Lip Colour SPF12. Available in 12 pale to deep shades, the new lightweight lipstick has been created using a colourless base to showcase the true colour of pigments. As we await the promise of Spring, with this extended Winter climate in Scotland, we say, forget nude and go for the bold baby! SFA team tip - add a swipe of Bobbi Brown gloss to go for the on trend runway look of the moment! (Very much looking forward to the Bobbi Brown runway look for the models at this year's event).
If you are looking for the hottest hair trends set to emerge for Spring / Summer 2011, then look no further. Our great friends at Toni & Guy are returning to the Scottish Fashion Awards for the 4th year as our official haircare partner, creating the looks for our models and catwalk show. Having just completed the looks in over 30 shows and presentations at London Fashion Week, we have selected one of our most favourite catwalk creations. We love it for the name alone - 'The Ugly Gorgeous' look. Blurring the line of beauty, the show's were all about the up do's! Anti-head shapes jutted out in voluminous Hepburnesque silhouettes, reflective high gloss shine bands sat in contrast to dreamy and feminine static textures and intricacies such as braids and plaits were either distressed or modernised with knots and tangles for that effortless 'It Girl' feel. Got it?
Designers everywhere paid homage to the Seventies this season. From printed maxi dresses and geometric kaftans, fabulous flares and crisp tailoring. High street star, Marks & Spencers offers many Seventies staples that get our vote! SFA team tip has to be the burgundy halter neck jump suit. Remember ladies, to create the complete look, don't forget the big, sensual curls - aka 'Studio 54'!
