Chris Jones, Regional Managing Director, said: "We are very excited to reveal the shortlist for the Scottish Fashion Icon of the Year category. The ten nominated Icons represent a wide spectrum of Scottish style - from red carpet glamour to understated chic. The Fashion Icon Award acknowledges everything that is special about fashion, including its ability to express personality and identity."
'The Oscars of Scottish Fashion' is now a firm fixture in the international fashion calendar and celebrates it's fifth anniversary with a black tie extravaganza at a new venue for 2010, the architecturally renowned Glasgow Science Centre. Set to be attended by global fashion figures, designers and industry leaders, caledonista's will celebrate the anniversary with glamour and glitz, joining Swarovski's 'Official Red Carpet Event Calendar', which includes the Oscars, Golden Globes and Cannes Film Festival. Known for accessorizing celebrities with Swarovski jewels, the brand are dressing all the Scots who will take to the tartan red carpet here in June.
The 'Fashion Icon' is the only category at the prestigious awards ceremony that can be voted for by the general public. Over the next few weeks the public can vote for their favourite Scottish Fashion Icon and then the final 4 Fashion Icons will be announced before the event with the winner being presented on the night.
Tessa Hartmann, founder of The Scottish Fashion Awards said: "This is the only category that we can have a bit of fun with and get the nation involved. The rest of our awards are voted for by our esteemed judging panel, which includes fashion directors, industry leaders and successful global brands. The Icon category is probably the most contentious of all our awards as everyone has an opinion! Being fashionable is not just about wearing the most 'on trend' items; it's about having a style that suits you, being able to carry that look off with confidence and charm. There is a total mixture of looks in this list from rock star, edgy, classic and modernist but all of them can hold their own. After the frenzy last year with Jenni Falconer receiving the most votes, it will be interesting to see who steals her crown in 2010!"
