NURTURING NEW TALENT
The Scottish Fashion Awards will host the 11th annual event on the 21st October 2016 in the nation's fashion capital, London. Co-hosted by Chairman and founder Dr. Tessa Hartmann CBE and the Rt. Hon David Mundell MP Secretary of State for Scotland, the event will shine a global spotlight on the nation's work and honour the most distinguished list of fashion, design and textile talent.
The event has showcased a huge range of Scottish talent over the last eleven years and provides an invaluable international stage for the next generation of fashion's future leaders.
Previous judges have included global fashion players such as supermodel Stella Tennant, Caroline Rush CBE Chief Executive of The British Fashion Council and Editors from leading fashion glossies including Glamour, Grazia, Paper Magazine, The Daily Telegraph, Marie-Claire, Vogue Italia and The British School of Fashion to name but a few. The 2016 line up of judges which will be revealed in July, will be no exception.
The 11th annual black tie gala which has been dubbed a 'Highland Gathering' will take place at the Rosewood London on High Holburn. This luxurious hotel is housed in the original headquarters of the Pearl Assurance Company and combines British heritage with contemporary sophistication. The Grand Ballroom will welcome the great and the good of Scottish fashion, supermodels and stars of music, stage and screen.
The party atmosphere of the Scottish bash is now legendary with champagne and cocktails, a delicious themed Scottish cuisine, high profile music performers and DJ's will complete this unrivalled awards ceremony.
Joining the award wining 5-star hotel the Rosewood London as a partner, is luxury car manufacturer Maserati who will be chauffeuring the VIP guest list across London to the sought after red carpet extravaganza.
Tessa Hartmann said: "The inaugural event in took place in 2006 at Stirling Castle in the Highlands where judges like Alexandra Shulman and The Honourable Daphne Guinness navigated the historic cobblestones and celebrated Scotland's most fashionable Scots. Christopher Kane scooped Graduate of the Year Jonathan Saunders was crowned 'Scottish Designer of the Year'. We honestly never imagined we would start a movement. A movement where suddenly the Scots had a voice in fashion, a platform where we could showcase the emerging innovators as well as some of the leaders of the world's luxury fashion houses. The common denominator - Scots blood, insatiable energy, drive, hunger to succeed and all vying to place their fashionable footprints in this highly competitive market sector.
"To keep this event alive, we've had to rely on private sector sponsorship and as such I'm so very grateful to the brands that have supported all us for all these years. We feel very passionate about Scottish fashion and textiles and we see it as our role to continue to showcase Scotland's fashion innovators and introduce them to a bigger, and more influential audience like the one's we attract to London."
The 11th Annual 'Highland Gathering' isn't just about a congratulatory nod; a nomination in these awards has made a monumental difference to the many small businesses, designers and fashion innovators from networking, brand awareness and commercial success. However, we can be sure of one thing; On the 21st October, when the Scot's fashion invasion hits London once again, we can rest assured that the Scots will close the fashion season in grand style with a party to remember!
